Where showing love to protective styling!

Continue to read to find out our favorite styles to protect those ends and maintain growth.

Protective styling is a necessity to your Hair growth regimen. Styles can be detailed and long term requiring wear time over a course of 3-6 weeks or short term for simply only a week. Not everyone is a fan of protective styling. Some of These styles are time consuming and complicated but each is meant to reach the desired effect of protecting your ends and allowing the hair to rest. Protective styles keep the end of the hair tucked away to prevent any tugging , pulling or damage, while having easy access to keep scalp moisturized .They are also meant to encourage hair growth my minimalizing manipulation of your tresses, which will enable a bit of a time saver for your morning routine since those strands wont have to be done in the morning, just unwrap and go!

Though some may say the protective style all depends on its type for the true benefit. I myself am a go to high bun queen to protect my curls. I however have recently gotten my hair Faux Loced and have also found some agreement to the best protective styling being a simple two strand twist, bun or braid crown.

I say this because since getting my hair braided in Faux locs the sheer weight of the style is what is discouraging me . I do feel an increased tension to my head from the pulling of the braids which is not ideal in protective styling to me. Trust me, my locs were done loosley and away from my edges but I still feel the pull. This is the argumentative point of braid styles verses natural hair protective styling since tension can lead to breakage. When styling your own natural hair in a protective style like a high bun or braid crown , the styles are not too tight , protect your ends, are loose enough to keep the entire strand moisturized and still have the protective skills. When braiding is involved , your scalp is exposed for easier access to do scalp oiling, However achieving complete moisture to the entire strand is near impossible due to the hair being completely covered by the additional hair.

So after experiencing this style, Ill conclude that ideal protective styling would be a full head 2 strand twist out or braid crown since each of these styles are light weight, no tension and easily restyled with very little manipulation while leaving access to remoisturize when necessary.

While I truly enjoyed my 4 weeks of faux locs, offering various “Selfie” moments and satiating my little desire to feel what dreadlocs felt like without the real commitment . I will be returning to my go to bun and crown to continue on my growth journey.Comment below on your thoughts on protective styling and lets keep the convo going. Much Love and Deep Conditioning!
